Going Nowhere Slowly
SEASON 01
For the past 2 years, Stuart has been traveling Southern Africa, having his experiences documented in a travelogue called “Going Nowhere Slowly”. He began his journey in Namibia and traveled down the West Coast of Southern Africa where the first season of the show ended.
Season 1 Highlights:
- Climbing Dune 7… and nearly dying
- Worlds longest foofy slide over a canyon…. and nearly dying
- Skydiving in Citrusdal… and nearly dying
- Quad bikes and camel rides in the Namibian desert
- Spending time on the road with Anton Visser and Vivienne Vermaak… you can’t ask for better travel companions.
SEASON 2
Saw Stuart join the crew along the Breede River. Along with Ashley Dowds and fellow comic Kurt Schoonraad, they tackled the Garden Route. Each day they were greeted with new challenges, some of which Stuart still can not live down that he did not accept (Bungee Jumping). This season also saw the introduction of guest presenters as they journied inland through the 3 Karoo’s and eventually back to Namibia. The next leg of the journey was along the Orange River and eventually back to the South Coast. The show saw Stuart end the season by selling the red car to a man in Sutherland, the coldest place in South Africa.
Season 2 Highlights:
- Extreme sports with Kurt and Ashley…and nearly dying
- Riding a horse bare back on a beach… and nearly dying
- Chickening out of a bungee jump on national TV… and nearly dying of shame
- Experiencing the Karoo: swimming in dams on the side of the road and watching stars at night
- Paddling down the Orange without tipping
- Having all my belongings stolen from a motel in Kimberley (That Horse Shoe Motel… what a classy place)
- Discovering my 2 favorite towns in SA… Mossel Bay & Upington
SEASON 3
Stuart hosted the first 5 episodes. The journey started in Sutherland and the team immediately shot over the boarder to Botswana. From Gabarone they moved north to Nata, home to the center of Gondwanaland. Next stop was the Chobe River for some game viewing before crossing over to Zambia. There was a huge accident on the way to Lake Malawi and they headed off into Mozambique.
Season 3 Highlights:
- Getting a massage on the banks of the Zambezi at the Royal Livingston
- Playing rugby at the center of the start of the universe
- LAKE MALAWI!!! WOW
- Sharing the journey with SA’s most talented musician, David Foster and her royal highness Viv Vermaak
SEASON 4
Stuart returned as the host of SABC 3’s cult travel show “Going Nowhere Slowly”. This season saw Stuart being joined by SA’s favorite celebrities and the first victim is our favorite soapy villain Michele Botes (Isidingo). They toured the Tankwa Karoo and visited SA’s smallest town, Middelpost.
Comedian Kurt Schoonraad also joined the show and these 2 comics swing by at a karaoke bar in Calvinia to show why they never tried a career in singing.
The crew moved towards the coast which included eating crayfish, checking out dolphins, eating crayfish, quad biking, eating crayfish, learning to surf… and oh did we mention that they also ate crayfish?

More comedy as Kurt left the show and Aunty Mearle (Marc Lottering) joined Stuart in exploring a hotel in Steytlerville.
After a long night of wine and song they headed to the friendly city of Port Elizabeth where Barry Hilton acted as tour guide. They then moved along to the Addo Elephant Park, home to more than just the big five… they’ve got the big 7… this includes whales and dolphins!!!
